Willem's Sculptures

Willem has been sculpting since 2006 when he realised the pieces he took out of the cars he was repairing had an interesting look to them and could be used for something besides their original purpose. Willem has been a member of the Sculptors Society since 2009 and has exhibited successfully in all their exhibitions. Willem has donated works to many charities and enjoys the way his works reach people. Willem also exhibited at Feyona’s gallery41 for 6 years and participated is several group exhibitions with the National Grid gallery, gallery 307, Global gallery in their sculpture exhibitions, the Palm House in Sydney’s Royal Botanical Gardens and at ArtSydney 2008 and 2009 and the Sydney artFair in 2011. Work is in many private collections as well as in a sculpture park in Glenorie. Willem has made large commissions for private sculpture parks.

Feyona's Sculptures

My overwhelming interest is in the human body, particularly female, the form, the variations of movement and muscle and the sensual voluptuousness of its infinite shapes. Ceramics give me the freedom to develop and vary the shapes ……gradually the shapes become dominant and each body’s individuality acquires its own personal definition. The colour and finish in the end result is something I am always experimenting with, in glazes and primitive firings, in sculpture. I also experiment in my paintings which have become ever more abstract.

Feyona's Paintings

My overwhelming interest is in the human body, the shapes become dominant and each body’s individuality acquires its own personal definition. I have also been experimenting with heads - the shapes of the head, the neck and also the abstraction of the shape Colour, then abstraction is also exciting to me – to get the feeling from colours, shapes and the end result is something I am always experimenting with, not only in sculpture but also in my paintings which have become ever more abstract. My strongest influences have to be the great Expresssionists especially Egon Schiele, Otto Muller and Alexej von Jawlensky – the colours, the shapes and the abstraction.
